My Counseling Philosophy and Approach

Word Art

The profession of counseling underpins wellness and empowerment. This means I use a holistic approach to counseling that takes into account your biological, psychological, social, and spiritual dimensions. My counseling approach is based on acceptance, honesty, genuineness, and warmth. I believe that the therapeutic process is a partnership in which the counselor and client work as a team and explore current client concerns and work towards identified client goals. I honor the essence of the individual and their ability to change. I hold space for you to heal by helping you experience the freedom to open your heart without feeling judged, shamed, overwhelmed, or having your power taken away. In a place of trust and safety, you make choices that are best for you, engage in self-exploration, enhance awareness of the personal events encountered, and experience hope and freedom as you desire. And my ultimate goal in counseling is to empower you to be able to navigate life’s challenges on your own.

I use different schools of theory to meet each client’s needs. The theories and techniques I integrate often include:

  • Person-Centered Therapy
  • Strength-based Therapy
  • Attachment-based Therapy
  • Cognitive-behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Neuroscience techniques
  • Mindfulness-based techniques
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
  • Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
  • Trauma-responsive care
  • Prepare/Enrich Assessment and Counseling
